In that the British came organized and ready for war, and were confronted by the American revolutionaries, unorthodox and no "military" attire. So now here is America fighting in Iraq and now we are the "Red Coats"...and they using our own tactics against us we perfected during the fight for our Independence?

But by unseating their president didn't we sort of...i don't know incite the Civil War? Those who back the "British" and those that want to govern themselves? ( I mean keeping with my original analogy) So when we (the US) first got there....wouldn't the analogy I posed be correct?

To comment on the founding Father remark...wouldn't it be plausible that every Nation can aspire to greatness without having that greatness affect those around them nor be subjugated to the scrutiny of others...
I mean couldn't they very well have foudning fathers and have a sense of Manifest Destiny? What gives us the right to interfere? And if we have the right, when do we have the permission to intefere with our own American social up hevels? From Bush throwing away lives in the "war" to the Biloxi, New Orleans and other places of Katrina destrction looking the same and being the same to our own acts of violence against one another? So if we have the right to interefere with the destiny of others who has the right to interfere with ours? or are we purely Hypocritical?

Not even close.

Consider the issues that the 'insurgents' on each side fought for:

American Revolution: Fought for the right of the people to choose the form of government they wanted.

Iraq: Fighting against the form of government chosen by the Iraqi people in UN-certified elections.

The only thing that is the same in both wars is American soldiers fighting for the right of the people to choose the form of government they desire.

I knew this would come up sometime. There are similarities. Military: Global super power intervenes in the political activities of a sovereign nation Civilian: Population is sharply divided against itself Global trade: Oil Political: trying to superimpose democracy Time: Thought to be a quick effort, has become a long drawn out affair Differences: Military: Iraq was not a colony of the US or any nation, the intervention was by a US led coalition in an independent country Civilian: The differences seem to be primarily religious, though economic factors are involved. In the Americas, the civil war that resulted was political, then personal. Global Trade: We had trees, beaver, and markets. In Iraq they have Oil, Oil, and Oil Political: The American colonials were British subjects, rebellng against their government, Iraqis were not governed by any outside nation. Time: The difficulty extracting ourselves from Iraq is because of the type of situation we're in. This war could well turn into a road war, where when it cools down in Iraq, it will heat up in Iran or Syria. By mid century, we may well be fighting over the oil reserves in Saudi Arabia.

Well, no. Iraq is in the midst of a civil war. A better analogy would be if the French decided to come and stop the Civil War in 1863 by putting dozens of troops in the cities, with occassional movements into the countryside.

Execpt I can't remeber who it was from france who wanted to bring "democracy" to america, But i'm shure they would have "been welcomed as liberators" what with the british in thier "last Throes" and all.

There are similarities that the Bush admin. should have taken account of, like, what do most people do when they are invaded?
They fight back, right?
