Even though I am an atheist, when I first started using YH answers I would defend everyones right to believe what the chose to believe, but as time has gone bye I have lost the desire to do so because of the questions and answers that have been posted on here by those that claim to be religious, especially the Christians and Muslims. They act like children and express their hate so openly for any belief other then their own.

Now I find that I can no longer defend their rights because I feel threatened by their ignorance. Going back to my original question, has anyone else had this experience?

I have also learned by experience that this is not truly an open forum since so many questions and answers get deleted for simply expressing a view or an opinion.

Yes, at one point I was eager to come and read questions, answer some, maybe ask a few. Lately it seems that all anyone can do is spew childish insults. Numerous clones insulting Muslims, Christians, Jews, Atheists, Pagans, Hindus, etc. etc. Seems so worthless and pointless to come in here regularly because this is the majority of what you see. It's such a shame that you miss the actual questions and the good debates because of a bunch of bored teens and (sadly) adults who haven't yet undergone the maturing process. Makes you want to shout "Just grow up already!!!" but you know it would fall on deaf ears.

They ARE children, just as you are, child. And I don't mean that in a derogatory way. Just stating facts. Another fact. They don't have the RIGHT to believe in anything. It is a privelege. Human rights ARE one of the biggest myths to hit the planet. The intentions were good, but the road to hell IS paved with good intentions. God's intentions were good, but he soon repented that he made man. Repentence means learning from the past. That is why you don't see cave man walking around anymore.
Humans will find that intelligence and goodness are one and the same. this is what Jesus meant when he said "Forgive them, they don't KNOW what they are doing."
As an amateur epistemologist/linguist I believe everyone on earth has been misinterpreting Christ for the past 2,000 years. It follows that I believe there is no such thing as a real Christian, yet.
I have a couple of other answers posted on here, one to a fellow who wanted to know why god was trying so hard to prove his existence. Please check them out. Keep love in your heart. Be forever honest. Defeat the beast within, and you will win!

I did not care a bit about religion before I came to YA. I do not have a religion, and did not care if anyone was religious or not. Now I am so polarized and wound tight about the issue that it is not funny. By being exposed to the religious people in this section I can't help it. That is why I am not on here too much now. Being on this site has seemed to have some negative effects. It is so bad, that I will probably be reported for giving this answer and having an opinion. I could go on, but I won't.

There are self-righteous trolls here of ALL stripes. I've seen Christians, Atheists, Muslims, and idiots who don't seem to care WHO they insult. But that doesn't stop me from defending ANY religious position from mean-spirited questions. That includes Atheism AND Islam.

Yes, I would say it's relatively common for those of us who actually enjoy intelligent dialog concerning spirituality. Sometimes it's hard to wade through the stupid comments and hateful remarks...and I have lowered myself to a snide jab occasionally. I guess what I find so annoying is the ignorance of one's own belief system and the intolerance of others. Those are the people who seem to be the most vocal in a forum such as this.

I am a christian and yes I have had the same experiences as you. I try to answer questions honestly without insults and it is hard when you have others who call you names or shove insults into every opportunity. I defend your right to believe as you wish. We can agree to disagree.

I feel exactly the same way. I used to see them as just people who believed differently than I do, but on Y!A I've seen a side of them that disgusts me and makes me want nothing more to do with their religion. Now, I consider myself opposed to Christianity.

Hell, I'm agnostic. They could have converted me if they weren't being such arrogant jerks. Their constant preaching of their dogma and intolerance of the beliefs of others gets in the way of intelligent discussion.

I just accept their beliefs as another mythology which has historical value. The Bible is ingeniously designed as a mind trap for people to become so emotionally seduced by the texts they cannot escape. Its a dangerous book

I have ... but it's been the opposite for me... I'm Christian and I used to defend Atheists right to believe what they wanted but now I find that I can no longer defend their right because I feel threatened by their ignorance

i'm a christian, but i'm definitely not ignorant..I believe you and I both have a right to believe how we want to, and I would defend an athiests rights. I don't hate any other faith. I think everyone should believe or not believe in whatever they want to.
