The IRS is sponsoring the Free File Alliance. The FFA has a list of partners that allow taxpayers to file their federal returns for free. Millions of taxpayers that make less than $52,000/yr will quailfy for the free service. IRS' website has an E-File Guide to see which services you qualify for.
There are a few that offer free state filing, others will charge a small fee. You may also go to your state's Dept. of Revenue website and see if they offer free web filing.

the ones mentioned above, plus taxact.com (and probably others as well, google 'tax filing websites).

intuit and turbotax offer a program called the tax freedom project for those of us who make under 20,000$ a year. it's worth checking out if you are lower income.

if you are above that level, they offer e-filing for as low as 9.95 right now.
