My brother has an Explorer, and it had the same exact problem...he ended up just having to replace the part...

If the cover for the switch is broken, call a salvage yard and get a used one. If the switch itself is broken, you can have it replaced fairly inexpensively. If you want to try to replace it yourself, go to an auto parts store and get a repair manual, Chilton's or Haynes, for your car. They are only about ten bucks, and will walk you through any repair you might want to do.

I have a 1999 Windstar and it does the same - only mine stays on for 45 minutes. I understand that this is not uncommon for Fords made those years. I was told we would have to replace all of the door sensors since the service dept at the dealership is unable to determine exactly which sensor it was.

I have the same issue! So i'd like to know myself, its out right where the gas gauge is too, thats wicked annoying. Also the cosmetic lights on the passengers side mirror are out, and the wiper ones. Like to know how to fix those.....

go to the local auto parts store and the parts dude can look at your problem and sell you what you need to fix your ride ....
