Per Army regulation, you are not permitted to wear contact lenses in a field environment. A warzone is a field environment.

It a matter of being practical. In the field in a dry dessert, I would think that contacts would be a nightmare!! I good soldier will always bring his glasses as a back up when the contacts fail.

There are people who do but it's best to wear glasses. Also, if you serve in a combat arms branch, you may be eligible for Lasik surgery through the military.

You can where contacts once you get out of training. As far as Iraq goes you can wear them there as well but they have sand storms so some kind of goggle is a must.

my husband is in the guard and served over seas recently (afghanistan) yes, you can wear contacts..but it's not a good idea. sand in your eyes is no fun at all. You also can't wear them with your gas mask. glasses would be a good bet for a deployment.

No, because if you have to put on your Chemical Warfare gear, you cannot wear contacts, you have to wear the inserts.
