Actually travelling by Air in the United States, not Canada or Mexico...all you need is a Picture ID (note Picture) This can be in the form of drivers license or Government ID pictures if you don't have rivers License... if you don't have those than a birth certificate, of certificate of birth and another form of ID to confirm that (school transcripts (official) or utility bill in your name. No Passport necessary in the Contiguous States. Take it to the Bank, I have a Pilots License.... The rules apply to public and private transportation...

If you are checking in at an airline within the US and are a US citizen, you just need some form of government issued ID such as a drivers license. A passport is always the best form of ID. Those under 16 do not need ID assuming they are flying with adults.

I'm not sure if you're american flying in america but I'd imagine you'd still need a passport since america was the ones bitching over people needing passports....
