There are many liberal (non-fundamentalist, non-evangelical) Christian pastors and congregations among mainstream denominations: Episcopal, United Church of Christ, Presbyterian, American Baptist, some United Methodists, etc.

Since they don't turn exclusively to the Bible for their faith, and don't assume it can be interpretted literally, what are the bases for Liberal Christian Faith? What does spiritual authority mean to a non-fundamentalist, non-evangelical Christian?

Good question. I don't know about all the denoms you listed, but Episcopalians sometimes say there are 3 pillars of spiritual authority - the bible, the tradition of the church, and reason.

I think a lot of liberal Christians say their theology and beliefs are based on the bible - they just interpret the bible very differently than fundamentalists do. They emphasis certain parts of the bible (Jesus' social teachings) and de-emphasize other parts of the bible (Jesus' teachings on salvation, hell, sexual morality, etc).

When Israel would turn away from the WORD of GOD she would turn away from the GOD of the WORD.

When the church turns awsay from the WORD we lose our relationship to the GOD of the WORD and make a god to suit our own views. This is called a "tickling ears" ministry.
