First off do not listen to people that say there is nothing you can do because of a dogs age, this is wrong. My dog learns more as he gets older and I am sure he will his entire life(he is 6). Next you need to excersize the dog more in the day so that he is so tired he won't want to bark. If you have a treadmill put him on it, give him treats, let him get off, repeat. When he is comfortable then turn it on a low speed and tempt him with treats from the front, this is the no work way to exercise your dog. Eventually he will jump on and beg you to turn it on.
No dog is 'hard' to train. You have to get their attention and learn how to affectively communicate in a loving but firm manner what the rules and boundries are. I suggest you take some time to understand what is really going on in your dogs mind and consider how he sees the world. Then you will not only understand why he barks but exactly how to stop it. I recommend ceasar mulan books and they can be found at your local library.
Any effort on your part could save your dog, which I am sure you love or you would not have taken the time to post this question, from a sad fate. Many dogs end up at the pound or in abusive homes each year, don't let YOUR potential best friend become one of them.

Ask your folks if they'll consider helping you with the cost of professional obedience training. That would help with nearly any behavioral problems.
In the mean time, most dogs won't bark for "no reason". It may seem like no reason to us, but there's a reason to be found if you look for it. Is he crated at night when everyone goes to bed? Or, not crated but still separated from the family? Is his sleeping area prone to distractions like household noises, outside noises, outdoor motion sensor lights, etc? Try to identify the cause and see if you can't eliminate it.
You'll want to be firm and consistent in correcting him too. Don't wait for your parents to get upset before you go and quiet the dog down.
How long have you had the dog? You said he's three - did you get him as a pup, or did you adopt him? If he's new to your household, the barking may subside soon, as he adjusts to his new home. If you've had him for three years and this behavior is new, there's definitely a reason for it, and you need to find it.

Who wants to run after the dog in the middle if the night to train them. Use a shock collar, some people think that it is mean but feel it for your self, I did and it doesn't hurt(but it works). Mine has 3 diffant settings you start at the lowest and see witch one works.
To train a dog you have to stick with it every time they act up, and at night you don't want to be running after the dog. And at 3, I think this is the only thing that will help you.
Oh.! and if there is something that they don't like (my dog still let me know that some one was in my car one night).
They do get scared alittle at first because they have no idia what is going on. But they soon learn to conect the shock with the bark.

poor you , we can´t have your parents take the dog away from you , well lets see , most dogs like to be played with they love attention, try this , when your dog barks, go to your dog look straight at your dog and with a very firm voice say NO, if your dog stops barking give your dog a biscuit straight away say good dog, phrase your dog give a clap and walk away ignore for 10 min´s then play a little. when ever your dog obeys you give a treat always give commands with firm voice , SIT, then show your dog you are happy clap your dog and a small treat , dogs are like children , they try and push us to see how far they can get away with things if you do these thing´s it might help I hope you can keep your dog

I have a dog that is amazingly difficult to train. First... his kennel is a safe place to him and will retire quietly there. The second tool is a citrinela (sp) collar. This is a kind and humane way to help train your dog. These are sold at Petsmart. There are three buttons, one gives a warning sound, another gives a short spray, and finally a long one. This is all natural and they DON'T like the smell. Soon the warning sound will catch his attention. Best of luck!

Dogs bark for lots of reasons: play, anxiety, frustration, attention-seeking. You need to work out why your dog barks and then you should be able to train him to be quieter. Chasing him round the garden or kicking him does not seem to be working; perhaps you should ask for advice from a pet behaviourist, e.g.

We tend to think of dog training as a series of steps for teaching particular behaviors. To teach a dog to stay in a particular position, you reward her as she remains in place for gradually longer times, at gradually greater distances, with gradually increasing degrees of distraction. Now, this is fine, training does involve teaching dogs specific behaviors with a step-by-step approach. This week, though, I’m going to discuss three mental habits that will not only enable you train more effectively but also make life pleasant for both you and your dog.

i don't like the conception of crate preparation. I did it with my first 3 canine and hate it. what's operating with my new puppy is puppy preparation pads. i assumed they were bogus before everything yet some thing about the way they scent to the canine tempt them to apply it. WORKS FOR ME! commence through putting one in each and every room that the puppy hangs out in. Then the position ever she is going positioned one there. tutor her the position they're and positioned a manage interior the nook of each and every. Then gradually bypass them in the route of the door you go with her to bypass out to apply the lavatory outdoors. it ought to take some weeks so be affected human being. and dont yell at her or hit her even as she misses. good luck.

Try to see if your parents will allow him to come inside and sleep with you in your room. I am willing to bet he wouldn't bark at all then, unless someone was trying to break in.
