I have two answers- one political and one psychological.
There is no single right inherent to man, and man is naturally selfish (Hobbes). So there is nothing "wrong" with you taking what you want; however in most circumstances today, there is good reason why you shouldn't. For a long time, mankind lived in a state of anarchy, where anything was game, and everyone constantly had to protect what was theirs. After a while, people figured out that everyone could do a lot better if they agreed to be nice to each other. This "social contract" is what allows you and your neighbor to go to work in the morning instead of guarding your houses from each other. Everyone is a winner this way.
Psychologically speaking, we have a hierarchy of needs (Maslow) that dictates our actions. The least important of these needs is social acceptance, placing after things like sustenance, shelter, etc. Assuming, your basic survival needs are met, your next impulse is to acquire favor with other humans (our Darwinian instinct for seeking support/strength in numbers). Thus you are much more likely to steal from people you don't know or when higher levels of your hierarchy of needs are unfulfilled.
These are two strong reasons why people act civilly despite the non-existence of morality.

If everyone followed that philosophy, humanity could not survive and would instead come to a fast and bloody end that I can't imagine anyone could want. You could of course ask for a logical explanation why humanity should survive, but I don't think that this needs any explanation. And I don't think you'd want to be killed, and you know that without a logical explanation. It is logical to think that what is valid for you is also valid for others.
And also if you kill you will be punished as long as there is some righteous legal system working, which needs to be there to prevent a great desaster for everyone.

Logical??? You have to ask? We kill because you want something, don't like the person, they looked at you wrong, the way they look, their size??? How many people would be left on this earth ? Not you or me that's for sure.

Societies in which people kill each other all the time will become very weak. Another society (tribe) could easily conquer them, since many of their men have been killed.
Therefore in most societies it is not considered morally wrong to kill your enemies in a war.

Logically speaking, you have to some sort of screw loose in your head to think that killing someone to meet your needs is ok. Humans are emotional beings, a sane person could not kill someone without some sort of mental or psychological effect....
A rational person would consider who this person belongs to, and who would miss them... the irrational wouldn't care....
So if my elderly grandmother had a new vacuum and you wanted it, it makes sense to kill her and take it? Think about how my family would feel? I might become vengeful and seek my grandmother's murderer.... once your dead your son seeks me and the violence continues.... what's logical about this?

Humans are social animals, and one of our biggest assets is the ability to form communities. Killing other humans breaks down that social bond - not only have you removed a member of society, others who would have helped you are now more likely to fear and shun you. If this happens enough, the community will eliminate you in order to ensure its survival.

Self preservation. why would I risk my life for something I may not need. You would probably hurt yourself in the process of taking the object away.

Apply this rule to yourself and you'll have your answer when someone decides to kill you for what you have.
