My hair is extemely thick and I got it layered. It doesn't take much care though. Just use conditioner every other day.

I have the same kind of hair, I find it easiest to care for when it is long. Short hair you have to spend so much time styling. A wash, condition, and blow dry. It usually will look nice and straight, but if I want it smooth and straight, I will use my chi straightener and tigi's S factor.
And if I really don't have time to straighten, A parted low pony tail, and I am ready to go. You can get the wave relaxed at a salon, if you want to make things easier. Another thing I like to do is put a little gel in my wet hair tip my head upside down and scrunch while I dry it. Before it fully dry I flip my head back up part it where I want it and finish scrunching. I follow off with hair spray and bobby pins to pin certain chunks back. It is cute, I call it crunchy curly. It can look a little 80's if you use to much gel, be careful.

if you are going to either curl it or straighten it or blow dry it, make sure to use that heat protecting stuff, i use SLEEK or THE S FACTOR. or you can just go to any hair salon and ask which heat protector is better for you.
