You don't need the "dog whisperer" guy. You just need to be more interesting than the environment that your dog is in. She just doesn't know that her name means "I get good stuff when I run to the Mama!!!". Begin at the beginning - be in a very boring room (the bathroom is good) and be sure that you remove potential reinforcers from her reach. For example, if you think she might choose to grab a washcloth or play tug with the tissue box, remove those things ahead of time!
Be sure that she's hungry. Have excellent treats (boiled chicken, Natural Balance rolls, cut up in cubes, etc) Now, call her name and immediately feed her. Repeat. Get a rhythm going so that she's really enthusiastic about this game!
Take a break after you've played this game for a few minutes. Then, get a friend. Load up with more really great treats, and play "puppy ping pong" with each of you sitting on the floor with your treats. Take turns calling the pup back and forth, and gradually increase the distance she has to go to be successful!
Next, play hide and seek in the house. Every time you think of it, hide from your dog and then call her. When she finds you, have a big party!! Treats, whip out her fave toy, etc.
Keep in mind that Doxies were bred to track critters. If you see her sniffing in the grass or following what might be a scent trail, don't call her. Don't give her a chance to say, "Eeehh, I can make Mama wait, I have something MUCH better going on over here!" You won't be as exciting to her as that smell.
Here's a link to help. Have fun!

You never will teach a dog to not run from you, but you can teach a dog to come when called. Dogs simply do not understand "not".
First off, never give a command that you can not enforce. All that does is teach a dog that it doesn't have to obey.
Next, be consistent, the only way you can do this is with a lead on the dog or something tasty in your hand at this point.
But understand that "recall" is the hardest of the three actions for a dog to learn.

Cesar (the Dog Whisperer) has a book out now that might have some answers. What he generally says is that when you worry that the dog will misbehave, that energy actually causes the dog to misbehave. Self-fulfilling prophecy. He also frequently says that if a dog does not mind its owner, that it is because the owner wasn't serious about the command.
Be confident, serious, and firm. Expect good behavior. Have the conversation with the dog in your mind: "You will behave and make me proud."
Be the pack leader.

She thinks you are playing and she needs training. They are not born knowing how to come when their name is called. Get a book on dog training.

i don't know
when my dog (rat terrier) runs away she doesn't come when called or be tricked. she's too smart for her britches. since i live in a rural area with low traffic i don't worry about her especially in the winter since when she's loose in the winter she stays out until she feels cold enough to come in. in warmer weather she will stay out as long as she likes or when she is hungry.

she is still a puppy and just wants to be played with. If you get her spayed she will calm down some. If she is still too young to get spayed then try playing with her outside more to use up some of her energy.

Stop chasing her and maybe try teaching her, her name. They don't come programed knowing their names.
