I have been out of school for a while, but I was just interested to see if other schools did this or was it just my school.

When I was in 6th grade I was about to hand in my paper and realized that my name was not on it. I wrote it really fast. When the paper handed back the papers she pointed out to the class that "Melanie forgot how to spell her name." She was very demeaning in her attitude. I wrote my name so fast that I left the D out of my last name. She made me write my name 50 times. Dumbest and most worthless assignment I have ever had.
I am now a teacher. Sometimes I have had a student write a paragraph describing their misbehavior. They then have to take it home and have their parent sign it. I probably have not used that one in about 7 years though.
Some teachers have a whole page typed for students who misbehave in study hall or for substitutes. The kids have to copy it. I have a copy of one but have never used it.

OMG I used to have to write for punishment all the time. My kids have been in trouble and the courts have asked them to write essays as well!

In 9Th grade, students needed to copy a textbook verbatim if they acted out in class. This was twenty five years ago.

My son is in kindergarten and if he gets in trouble his teacher will make him write that he won't do whatever he's done 5 times.
