Well Mr. James G I have to say that I have never heard of this being illegal when I was a police officer. They are not an offensive weapon or what our state calls "criminal use of weapons" and includes things like blackjacks, long bladed knives, brass knuckles, etc.
My one concern is why are you carrying them? Is this some kind of personal decision to be able to restrain a criminal if you happen to make a citizen's arrest? Or is there some other reason?
Some wanna-be cops carry some accoutrements of the trade just to appear to the casual observer as being in law enforcement. If you make statements indicating you are a officer, you may be looking at a class B misdemeanor in my state for impersonating an officer. This is the 2nd most serious class of misdemeanor.

It's not illegal but longs your carrying them for a good reason I am a loss prevention officer I carry them on me at all times even though I am not a police officer if someone I detain gives me a hard time as my job calls I have a right to handcuff the person for detainment purposes only so they don't harm me or themselves, there not on the suspect to arrest them. I leave that up to the professionals the police.

No, but why would you, to make yourself feel big? Unless you have the lawful authority to make a lawful arrest, you may end up wearing a set of someone elses. I carried them for 27 years and was glad to get rid of them when I retired. Grow up!

Maybe in places like NY City, but to my knowledge are not considered dangerous weapons, or anything of the like, so they are legal to carry. To be on the safe side, check with your local authorities, the place where you live may be as unreasonable as NY City.

There is no federal law against it. I haven't checked the 50 state laws, but I'm willing to bet most of them also haven't outlawed it.

Why do you want to carry them?

Of course not, you can carry almost everything in most states. Just make sure your not carrying guns in states that dont allow them, lots of people have trouble with that, beaucse they go to chicago and carry handguns.

No it is not but most states require you to have a permit like a security license or something of that nature.

I don't know, it might be? I suppose that one would have to look this up to find out. I suppose if you want to know more that you should go and investigate it yourself.
