After you have been on a antidepressant for so long it may need to be changed
My god I have changed medication so much I cant tell you how many I have tried.
Now paxil was horrid for me if I missed one day I felt like I was going to die....but as JDTAL7570 said it works different on different people
I do believe we are all different and we all react different on different medications.
I also think a psychiatrist is better to see than a regular MD because they know more about the brain and treatments than a reg. MD

Hi Wandy,
I have been on several medicines for depression in the last few years. I was also on Effexor...and I understand your frustrations with the side effects. I really like Cymbalta. I, honestly can not tell you how it works as each medicine works differently and you might not have the same results that I have had on it. But, I have had the best results on Cymbalta than any other depression medicine I have been on and I think this was the fourth medicine I tried before I was satisfied with the results. I did not gain weight or have any side effects from it. I also like it b/c I also have some anxiety issues and also chronic pain and this medicine helped with these issues as well. I took 60mg per day (I started at 30mg and titrated up to 60mg). I included the website for the drug. Check it out and see what you think. I have recommended it to other people and of those I have, they have also benefited from its effects.
**Of course this might not be the best medicine for you...only you and your doctor can determine that...but you can certainly ask the doctor if this medicine might be a good fit for you**
Good luck to you. Email me if you have questions of any sort. Have a great day!

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.
Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.

Don't go to the doctor and ask for a specific drug; you're just not qualified to prescribe for yourself.
What you should do is tell the doctor exactly what you told us: that you want to get off Effexor and onto something that will work better for you without the side effects you've listed.
There are a bunch of different classes of anti-depressants out there, and many choices within each class, so if you work with your doctor you should be able to find the right one for you.

My Husband takes Welbutrin.. He hated it for two weeks but hung in there with the headache side affects.. but after two weeks and two days.. he said it felt like a life altering experience.. He said he was ready to give it up.. but everyone told him the headaches would subside just hang in there..
He has said... why did I not take this sooner! I cant believe I went through life all this time feeling the way I did and all I needed was this pill.
He is truely a new man.. like night and day! I could not believe it myself!

The following are all antidepressant medications. It's really hard to say which is "better" than another, because they work differently with different people. This weekend, I would encourage you to do some research on these medications and then have two or three in mind that you think would work for you, and discuss those options with you doctor.

paxil is good for social anxiety disorder, but you cannot rate antidepressants on which one is better. Each drug works differently in each persons body. Just ask you dr. which he thinks is a good choice for you

Yes, it's called Zoloft. 100 mg daily. Your Dr. will probably only start you off on 50 mg. daily and work his way up. It also has a calming effect like Ativan, but you don't come across as being out of it like a crazy person on weed. You can still function through your work day. Don't pay so much attention to side effects. They are overwhelming for a reason-so the drug companies get sued less frequently. Did you ever read the side effects for aspirin? It's pretty funny.

Sooner or later, you'll realize that antidepressants are useless for getting rid of depression. They merely make you feel a little better (if you're lucky) and usually at some expense, such as the ones you mention. If you want to be cured of depression/anxiety disorder, you'll learn all you can about physical health and cognitive therapy. You can start by reading my "Antidepressant That Works" story: http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/AntidepressantThatWorks.html

You will have to discuss this with your doctor. Only you and the doctor can decide what is best for your health.
