In most circumstances, I would probably have thought this was a bad thing, but when I originally heard her parents and the doctors stories, I can understand it. It seems they do have only the best of intentions for Ashley's welfare. Here are some websites:

All that needs to be said is that it is wrong. I am a parent of a 9 year old son with Down Syndrome and I've heard of parents medically alterating their children's physical features because they are probably ashamed of them. Also, some parents give their disabled children up for adoption. And then there are those who choose to abort a baby after learning it will have some sort of disability. All of these are wrong, in my opinion.

I think this was truly a gift to both Ashley and her parents.

Ashley is never going to get "better" and her parents don't want to ever stop snuggling her on to their laps and giving her that love, affection and comfort....They don't want to start to have to leave her at home sometimes because she is just getting too hard to move around...They love her and want to keep her a part of the family and spend as much time as possible with her...Not get overwhelmed and have to take her to some awful "facility"...They are wonderful parents and she is a lucky girl.

I can't remember the site sorry but I totally disagree with them.
I don't feel the parents had the right to have all her female organs removed since it was not life threatening. They said it was easier for them and then they would not have to worry about a caregiver abusing her. Well they were her caregivers and who was going to get her pregnant? A family member? Something didn't seem right to me there. Keeping her a small size I can possibly can understand because it is hard to lift people that is dead weight but their story just seem to have to many hidden agendas in it.
