If it is your wedding, than it is your decision. My future mother in law wanted us to get married in Vegas. I asked her if she was going to help pay for doing the Vegas thing because flights, lodging and food (for parents, siblings and witnesses) would cost more than having a wedding and reception here. She then changed her mind since her purse didn't have to open up.

His mother's not getting married, you are. Take the wheel back from her as you and your fiance are the drivers. Take a stand with her as she is sure to control you for as long as she's in the picture. Let her know that you're not going to be pushed around.
I had the same/similar experience with my former mother-in-law. The marriage won't work if she's always sticking her nose where it doesn't belong. Tell her now, or be prepared for a controlled environment for your future.
Best of luck to you...

Mothers hate losing their little boys. Maybe she is starting to panic and is trying one last time to get him to make her happy like he did before you come along. Have patience with her but don't let her ruin your wedding day or your marriage. She has a new role in her sons life now and must realize this.

she probably just thinks it will be best and easier for the whole family to get together than to travel further. It will be a better turn out if it was closer to all the family members. perhaps she doesnt want to travel, she will but doesnt want to or other might of said they didnt want to,so she thought she might suggest if you could have it there instead.

She probably wanted family members to go that can't afford it ...you could do 2 ceremonies...but the most important thing to remember is it's yours and your boyfriend/ fiance's wedding ..... the only thing that matters is what the two of you want ...if i tried to please my fiance's mother we wouldn't be getting married...ultimately it doesn't matter what anyone else wants...only that your marrying the man you love and that the 2 of you are happy...Good Luck & Congratulations!!!

The reason doesn't matter. You and your future husband have to make this decision.
