Hello, I am 37 year old mom of two kids. Last month I had a somewhat tender breast lump before my period. Doctor ordered an ultrasound. The ultrasound happened after my period when I could no longer feel the lump. Ultrasound found nothing. I also went back to doctor who did breast exam and felt nothing. Now, it is back again and tender, and yes I am due for my period in about a week. What is this? Could it be breast cancer? I do not want to deal with this scare every month. Help!

Did you get a mammogram too? Mammograms can pick up smaller questionable spots than can be felt by humans

I had a problem like that my ob/gyn noticed the lump too and ordered a mammogram and ultrasound. Nothing showed up on either. That was around 1997. It went away after I had a hysterectomy so I attributed it to hormones but In 2004 I noticed a painful lump in the same area that didn't go away and my primary thought it was just normal lumpy breast tissue. This time it was malignant and I had surgery and did chemo and radiation and am now doing fine. The only thing I can suggest for now is to keep getting your regular mammograms and keep do your regular self exams.

This is called Fibrocystic Breast DIsease and millions of women have it...I have it. THe breast is stimulated by estrogen and during your mentrual cycle, just before your period is when it is most active. As soon as the period begons (after progesterone has infused the body) the lump disappears. Wear a well-supporting bra, avoid caffeine, and sometimes local heat to the breast helps. Good luck!

sometimes when you get your period'they get real tender and at times a little bumps come and go with your period.the only way that they could find cancer fast in a blood type is ca-19 that tell if the cancer is in there already,i had it,,i now have to have intestinal surgery in may,,, if it still bothers you after your cycle 'ask for a mamogram.they don't hurt'but can pick up the littlest of bumps,,,,good-luck

I get the exact same thing and think the same as "bflogal77" above. Go see a doctor who specialises in women's health, they'll probably tell you the same.
