I had my hair dyed a medium red and wanted to go dark brown. I used a 2N (neutral darkest brown). Well instead of being dark brown it's a reddish black. Anyone know what I could do to fix this problem? Is there a neutralizer or something I could buy?

nope, what you have done is leave it on too long. What people don't know about hair color is, in just ten minutes you probably have the color that you wanted...after that you have opened the hair scales up to allow a new color to be deposited, but once the color is deposited, each time you wash it the color also comes out. Hair color was invented for people that was only once a week. That is just not how we do things these days....I suggest buying the lightest blond in new garnia, found at walmarts, and lift the black off. Next buy a light brown at walmarts and leave it in only ten min. If all that goes wrong, just go over to highlights, done at a salon. Honey highlights have saved a lot of us from tearing our hair out at the roots....good luck..

The best thing to do is to go see a hairdresser. If you try to put anymore home dyes on your hair, you could end up in real trouble - reddish black is a lot better than green!!! I have done something similar to my hair with blonde. I am natuarally blonde, but got fed up with it and dyed it red - didnt like that so put a blonde over the top, and ended up with bright yellow hair!! The hair dressers fixed it for me - I only had to wait 3 days!!!! (hats come in useful)

Good luck - hope you get it fixed!!!

i don't know. usually red shows thru when hair is dyed. i don't know why but it is. what brand of dye did you use? my favorite dye has always been revlon color silk. it is the best at covering previous colors. you may want to try that. i use the dark brown and it has always worked well for me. i have used it to cover purple and yellow hair. good luck!

How did you get a blue shade out of browns? basically shop shampooing it and it will fade. in any different case blue is a cool hair shade and that i'm thinking of dyeing mine blue while i bypass to a Cowboys pastime in September.

if your hair turned black, you cannot go lighter unless you "strip" the colour. see a professional, don't do this yourself - you're gonna regret it for yourself and your hair.
