I would suggest that you listen to the song with the lyrics at hand, so your ear can start getting trained to the sung words. To understand music is much more complicated because singers sometimes must change the pronunciation a bit just to make it rhyme. That was how I trained my ear when I was learning english.

I am from a country far north in Europe, I do not know where you come from (?).
I learn to understand English by using close captioning on TV and I also look up the lyrics (on Internet) for the songs I want to learn, that way it is MUCH easier to learn, at least for me.
I still have problems with songs, because often you do not see their faces, just like when you talk on the phone, both things are much more difficult for me to understand.
I only read books in English and I try to talk to as many people as possible when I am out (without offending them of course!).
My husband says when I speak to people on the phone; I have no accent at all!
I think you will master the English language very soon!
Good luck on your way to dominate two languages!

I'm dutch, I learned English, French and German in school. Later I went on a spanish course and by travelling in South America and having a portuguese girlfriend I learned portuguese as well. English I can practice quite often, because it is the language you use mostly when communicating with foreigners of a language you don't know. Also reading is a good way to learn a language (use a dictionnary and try to figure out what they mean), of course you have to have some basic knowledge of the grammar.

There is just one way: speaking, speaking, speaking. Try to talk with native speakers, watch TV in english. It works.
Do not desperate if you do not understand the lyrics, it will come with the time. You should consider that many songs lyrics are mostly slang: in this case do not panic, it is not actually important if you understand it or not.
Spanish is my mother language, I speak german since I live in Germany since almost 10 years and well, I can not say that I dominate english, but I try to improve it.
Good luck !

My first language is Welsh but I'm also fluent in English.I have 'O' level French and I am learning Portuguese.
I speak Welsh 90% of the time as I live in a predominantly Welsh-speaking part of Wales.
It's difficult understanding the lyrics of a foreign language song, try to get the words written down it will make it much easier.I did this for "Je t'aime moi non plus".Find the lyrics on the internet.
Lwc dda, good luck, bon chance, boa sorte.

I'm Spanish. I didn't learn proper English until I went to live in the UK. It's a common problem that everybody learning a new language has. You spend years being taught a foreign language in your own country but when you listen to it, it's hard to understand. It took me 4 or 5 months to get a grip on it.

As an English speaker, married to a South African whose first language is Zulu, second being Afrikaans. After 6 years I have the basics of Afrikaans but still struggle with Zulu. The best I can say is as long as you have a reason and enjoy the second language keep at it!!
Good luck, and your written English is good!

I am working on mastering ASL, I was born hearing, I currently am Hearing, but ASL is the only other language that I have tried to study that really apeals to me, it jsut feels very comfortable both the language and the culture. I am currently in my second year of studing at a college level, and I use it as often as possible at many local Deaf clubs and events.
