1) your antenna is not tall enough or not attached at all
2) you are too far away from anyone else transmitting
3) your cb is not powerful enough
4) you blew a fuse when you turned your radio on before connecting the antenna
5) you sound kind of Polish. Are you?

Did you hook it up to an antenna, or is it a handheld unit that has the antenna built in?
What channel are you listening to? Ch. 9 will probably have more action than other channels.
You may need adjust the squelch.

CBs are also fairly low power. Depending on where you live, the terrain and geography, you may only be able to receive signals for a mile or so. If you on a hill or in a flat, open area, then you should be able to transmit/receive for several miles.

If you have a base station or mobile unit connected to an antenna, you also should really use an SWR meter to test/adjust the connection between the unit and the antenna.

Generally, if you can't hear, you don't have an antenna hooked up, or the one you have is insufficient. Without more details, I can't make any recommendations. Or, it could be your radio settings. Turn your Squelch all the way down and your RF Gain all the way up. Make sure your PA/CB switch is set to CB, and if you have a Delta Tune knob, set it to center. Most radios won't receive if you don't have the microphone hooked up, so plug it in. Channel 19 is where you're going to hear the most, that's the trucker channel. Channel 9 is ONLY for emergencies, you rarely hear anything on it.

CB radio's have a range of only a couple of miles. Are you near an interstate? Go near one and see if you can pick up any conversations.
