The answer starting with "My Fav" is right on, except for one thing...that always get overlooked when making a 7 layer salad is MIX the salad after it sits before you serve it and then top with bacon, cheese if you wish. It will be wonderful and creamy. There is nothing worse than having a 7 layer salad that is not mixed and you get these big globs of mayo with sugar on top. I always top mine with a little more cheese, bacon and then I arrange cherry tomatoes on top. Also, use frozen peas, not canned. I also leave out the egg because it gets too much for my taste and I include water chestnuts in mine for a nice crunch.

As you can see there are many 7 layer salads. This is the one I know by that name.
1 head iceberg lettuce, torn into small pieces and spread into 9x13 pan.
1 box frozen peas sprinkled over lettuce
1 small onion chopped finely and sprinkled over peas
1 can sliced water chestnuts, drained, spread over onions
1 Cup Miracle whip, or other salad dressing, spread over top.
2 Tablsp. sugar sprinkled over top.
1 Cup shredded cheddar cheese sprinkled over top.
Cover with plastic wrap and chill for several hours. Cut into large squares for serving. I don't ever mix mine before serving, but imagine it would taste great, just wouldn't look as pretty.
I've had this with hard boiled eggs layered in with bacon on the top. It's very good too but makes it a much more time consuming dish to boil the eggs and fry the bacon.....but how can bacon and eggs not be good!!! It's delicious without them though.

My FAV!!!! Okay it starts with lettuce (as much as you think you'll need...We make big ones so 1 head) Celery (your discretion) peas, manaise, sugar, onions, hard boiled egg, cheese, and crushed bacon, Don't put the bacon on untill your ready to serve it, as it will be mush. You have to make it and let it sit in the fridge for 24 hours. We do a nice layer of manaise, and sprinkle a fine layer of sugar ( don't want it too sweet) We do the layers just thinck enough that you can see them individually through a clear glass bowl. Good luck, this salad always impreses someone.
