well my dad smoked Non - Filter Camels for at least 60 years now and he is 74 years old. He still smokes them at least one pack a day...used to be 2 packs a day. He is still kicking strong....also it depends when God wants to take you to Heaven.

They could live till 90 or next year. Some people are not effected by how much they smoke. My parents both smoked too however both passed away from different diseases (alzheimers and ulcers)so the smoking was not a factor however being a smoker for most of my life I quit 4 years ago and I would say that is the best.
Your parents may enjoy smoking and don't plan on quitting. You cannot force them to do something they won't. Enjoy them while they are here, make the best of what you have now I say. Encourage them to quit it might help!!

It is a fact that smoking decreases your life span. But there are some people who drink and smoke their whole lives that end up living into the 100s. It all depends on the person. In the meantime, try to persuade them to stop!

They will be around longer if they pick up an addiction to healthy addictions. It doesn't appear that moderation will help at this point. Wellbutrin (Zyban) and a desire to get rid of the hassles helped me. The health benefits I realized encouraged my continuing cutting back until stopping. You can't just quit without filling the time with something --make it something healthy. Just complaining to them doesn't help much . You could try some positive reinforcement, but just "getting on their case" will not help; at least not for most smokers.

Get each of them a copy of Allen Carr's "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking." I've come across lots of ex-smokers recently who swear by this book.

Hard question. Don't have a good answer. They will die eventually of a fast painful death.
