You could buy Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2b 1pk w/Upgrade Coupon for Vista - OEM

Yes. Without buying both? Yes. Legally? Not so much. I mean, you could get away with buying a cheaper upgrade copy of Vista, but that's generally considered a bad idea. Or, if you can find someone who just bought a full version of Vista and thus has an unused copy of XP that they'd be willing to lend to you, there's nothing illegal about transferring a single-user license to someone else, even if only temporary (as long as only one computer has XP installed under that product key).

But to be honest, your best bet at present is to just buy XP and wait a while. Sometime down the road, they'll probably release something akin to XP Service Pack 2, where they'll fix a bunch of bugs, especially security ones, that slipped past the beta-testing process. _That's_ when you should consider buying Vista, and not before.
