A lovely Italian biscuit like baci di dama (ladies' kisses). Here is a recipe.

1 cup almonds, chopped
1 cup butter
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
2 oz. bittersweet chocolate
1 oz. butter

Mix the almonds, butter, flour and sugar together to get a smooth mixture, and make little balls, about the size of a walnut. Bake them on a greased cookie sheet for about 15 mins. at 350F. Let cool. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler.

Dip the bottom of one of the cookies in the chocolate then press it against the bottom of another so that they stick together. Do so with remaining cookies and let cool.

you dont want to make anything too sweet because your coffee will end up tasting extra bitter. and not coffe cake with a cup of coffe..two tastes arent good and complementary.what i always give my guests is a freshly baked appletart. my recipe doesnt involve alot of sugar... yet the tast it produces is absolutely devine. i get great comments on it all the time! if your interested in the recipe, contact me via email. and ask nicely...

Brownies, coffee cake, banana bread, pumpkin loaf, chocolate zucchini loaf, cookies (oatmeal, sugar cookies, chocolate chip, whatever you like), pretty much anything sweet is great with coffee.
Personally I like creme brulee, but most people don't make that at home...(I do, but my hubby's a pastry chef...)
