The earth has been warming and cooling for billions upon billions of years, and there is no scientific evidence to support we could effect it if we wanted to. Ultimately humans have the same effect on global warming as a single gnat would have to drain an elephant of blood.

Its like any lie, if you say it over and over long enough, people will begin to believe it. As far as Global warming is concerned, you are correct, there is no evidence to back up the claim. I see alot of people tout Algore's movie, "an inconvenient truth". But what fails with that movie is it has the same problem the whole global warming "theory"(remember: its only a theory) has. No proof.
We can't go by the last 150 years of information because it is not a large enough amount of data. And there were no humans around for the Ice age, not to mention, how do we stop valcanoes from erupting. Remember Mt. St Helen's? I also read about Venus warming up, and that its proof we are at fault. So the Venusians have SUVs too? Climate change happens, we can't do anything about it.

I believe in global warming. I'm not a scare monger, but am an environmentalist. Whether you believe it global warming or not, it is a debate that will have evidence both supporting it and disproving it. This issue is complex and on a global scale that will have evidence that may take decades or even centuries to appear. To say it must be a lie based on a few isolated criteria is contrary to scientific approach. Rather taking stock a multitude of informational sources both for and against global warming to decide which conclusions are reasonable or not is how I approach the debate. I also am unconcerned with the political nature of the debate. It is irrelevant what Gore, Clinton, or Bush say or do. Whether Gore created the Internet or not is irrelevant to global warming. A lot of why I believe global warming is taking place has to do with the impacts mankind as a whole has played in the world from the last ice age. Nearly all human activities from the Industrial Revolution to current times, requires energy. It may be electric, mechanical, chemical, or whatever. These energy sources (be it through combustion, reaction, or refinement) emit gases. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxides have been increasing on a global scale (perhaps exponentially, due to human population growth). Global GHG sinks have also been decreasing. I couldn't say whether or not a 33% increase in atmospheric CO2 concentrations can cause a shift in the CO2 cycle and thus a surface temp increase over time. I will say the the increasing human activity is impacting the environment. The US EPA and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) both have relevant information on the topic. While these organizations may have an interest in promoting hype for global warming, they are far more reputable than the contributors to this forum (myself included). Stick to the debate at hand and form your beliefs on reputable informational sources.

The theory of global warming is currently being debated by the top scientists in the world who study global conditions. Based on my humble opinion, the global warming arguement is winning. But it is still just a theory. And I'm not an expert.

So, given that the experts aren't in agreement, why are you convinced it isn't happening? Do you have some knowledge other than second hand information that the planet was hot and cold in the past to shed some light on the theory? Are you in fact an expert?

As to humans effecting planetary conditions, there are indeed scientific facts and phenomena that demonstrate we can drastically change the earth. For examples... nuclear weapons, deforestation, industrial pollution.

You are correct that there have been warmings and coolings in the geological past, but I think you're wrong that humans could have no impact on the earth. Have you watched the movie "An Inconvenient Truth" or read the book of it? I think that the evidence for human-induced global warming is rather strong. The consensus in the scientific community is quite strong, as well. Can I convince you here? No, but I do hope you'll read as much as you can about the differences between the past warmings and this one.

All humans lie, yourself included.
Just because you sometimes lie does not mean that sometimes you are not right.
So, while some global warming proponents may not be completely honest and may have political agendas that are non-scientific, the fundamental idea that the mean temperatures on earth *are* increasing is almost universally accepted in the scientific community.

The earth is indeed warming up with temperatures rising like 0.5 degrees celsius per annual. I can also feel the rise in temparature, without even knowing the fact. You should have felt it too. The carbon released into the air releases 10 time more heat than oxygen and we are continuously releasing that.

i always thought that up until this year...i live in the northeast region of the U.S. and our winter usually starts in October or November....this year it didn't even drop below 45 or 50 until about 2 1/2 weeks ago....its JANUARY for god's sake!

now i believe in it and there actually is scientific evidence for it...watch "an inconvenient truth" it's kind of boring but very informative...watch it with an open mind.

Global warming is not a lie. It is happening. You need to watch An Inconvenient Truth.

Every single scientist who isn't being paid by some corporation has looked at the research and disagreed with you, and I'm not talking about the publicists hired by huge corporations who claim to have some secret knowledge on the subject. You tell me who to believe, people who know something of the subject and aren't motivated by money or people who know nothing of the subject and are motivated purely be greed? Gee, tough choice.
