Just explain that it smells bad and be polite about it. I have had cats my entire life and I can never smell it so they probly can't either. My mom told me one day that my house stinks and ever since then I've been buying glade air refreshers just in case other people can smell it and I can't. They'll understand.

That's a tough one.
The only thing you can do is tell them right out right. Rip the bandage off fast and be done with it so to speak.
I have to wonder though if it will do any good? If you are smelling urine on their clothes that means the cats are urinating on them so my guess is housekeeping isn't a top priority for these people.
A litter box also needs to be cleaned daily. And with odor absorbing litter there really isn't any reason why that should smell either. I have two cats and I use Tidy Cats and you would never know that I even have cats unless you seen them.

basically you probably will not be able to do it without hurting their feelings. you just have to do it in a nice way. i would wait until they starting talking about their cats then tell them that their cats smell is getting into the house and furniture. cats are disgusting so i don't know how people deal with them grossing out their houses but i guess that's besides the point. also, you may not want to say anything, just stop going over their houses. of course if they ask you why you stopped coming, just tell them that the cat smell bothers you.

If you can get into a conversation about saying and neutering, then you can off-handedly say how neutering really reduces the ammonia smell. They may say, "Do you smell my cat?" Then you say, "Well, of course. Anyone can smell the scent of unneutered cats since they mark their territories. It doesn't bother me and I figured you knew. If you weren't aware of this smell, you may want to think of neutering."
It's kind of a back-door approach but hopefully an exchange like that may help take it away from their hygiene and onto a more neutral subject.
Good luck.

Don't! Simple as that! Or bring a little kid in their house. My little sister held her nose the whole time at my Grandma's smelly cat house. Although, she doesn't really care. It was funny though. Amanda was like it smells!lol
It also depends on your friend. If she/he is really sensitive, don't tell them. I have five rabbits and my mom actually asks if our house but the answer is no. So I don't know what you should do. It depends on you and your friends sensitivety

Oh GOD i know that smell! My friends house used to stink of cats. They didnt even realise that you can get (toxofibroisis) ( i tried to spell it), from cat poo! Its a condition thats like an absass on youre brain and could kill. This is true.
I suggest you bring in a young child with you and have him say :
"PPPPPPoooooooooo", "it smells baaaaaaad here"!.
Just make sure he doesnt touch a THING and run him home after he says it. Then give him some sweets and tell him well done!

Just say "Dude! This place STINKS!"
They have probably gotten used to it. Someone once told me they knew I had a dog by the smell of my clothes. I bathed immediately afterwards...

Just tell them. I'd rather be told that my house smells like cat then not knowing.

"My, you can really smell the cats here, eh?"
Really, just be honest about it. Without saying "It ****ing reeks of moggy in here" -- just a statement of fact. Like the previous poster -- I'd definitely want to know.
