I love Captain Morgan rum its my favorite rum but depending on the week my store sometimes marks up the jugs and its so expensive I have to buy something else instead.I have tried other cheaper brands but they just ain't that Captain. So far I have tried Tortuga which was ok but a bit heavy and some really awful stuff called Admiral something or other that was just pure swill.Anyways anybody have any other brands that they think are decent I should check out?

I suggest you learn where your rum comes from. The basic rum is from molasses, the wood, charcoal, flavoring used in the distilling process will determine the end product. You have started your homework, don't stop now, there is a lot to learn about what you already like. Track the information down to the source and you will find a lot of other great drinks. I am partial to DOMORA SPICE RUM. It is from Guyana South America. Goggle it, you can start your search there.

Captain Morgan Private Stock is great rum. However its about $20 to $25. More than regular Captain but WELL worth the price.
Bacardi is ok, personally I don't much like any of their clear rum (love the 151) but the 70 proof flavored stuff is cheap and you can drink it all by itself. Bicardi Gold (Oro) is a close bet to the Captain but if the price were identical I'd lean the to Captain.
Try Amazonas Ocumare "Aged" Rum if you can find it, comparable price and both a friend and a web site suggsested it.
Also Cruzan.

Not sure what region you are located in. Don Q is a local Puertorican run that to my understanding is in the early stages of being imported to the US. They, like many other rums, have all the flavors you could want. If you can find it, it's the best. I had some while I was in Puerto Rico.

Flore De Cana.

Hard to find but once you try it... oh my god.... you'll never go back to Capt Morgan again and you'll have no problem going to three or four different places trying to find it.

You have my personal guarantee you'll love it. I can upsell this stuff by the gallon.
