No, it's not to young at all.
Most Vets where I live will spay at a much younger age.
Yesterday she was wobbly and groggy because of being put under and probably the pain medication was adding to that.
Licking her incision is very common, she's just trying to help it heal.
If she starts to pull out the stitches you may want to inform the Vet of that, but just licking isn't a problem.
I've had cats all my life and never once has the Vet told me to keep a cat locked in one room for two weeks after being spayed.
The only thing I was ever told was to keep them confined to a small area the night I brought them home so that the after effects of being put under could wear off, just so she wouldn't hurt herself.
But two weeks sounds way over the top to me.
Do you have other cats?
Maybe that's the reason your were given the two week time period, but even at that it seems a bit excessive to me.
Good luck, kitty will be just fine.

Well I work for a vet and have never heard anything about keeping them in a room alone for any number of days let her out she will be ok thats just non sense. My kitten just got spayed two weeks ago she was 5 months old as well so that is ok most get done at 5 to 6 months old if she was not old enough the vet would not have done it. It is ok for her to lick the wound that cleans it remember cats clean themselves that way anyhow my cat still licks hers and its fine unless you see bleeding or it rips open dont worry. They are always wobbly and groggy after a surgery thats the anastetic that does that and pain meds can cause that as well. She needs some time to recover so for a good week or so all you will see her do is sleep and thats a good thing. As long as she is eating and drinking normaly and using the litter box she is ok.

Your kitty sounds fine. She would have been groggy yesterday because of the anaesthetic but will be more alert today. Five months old is not too young to have them done...it's cheaper and I think better to have them spayed BEFORE they have a litter...why add to an already overpopulated cat world? Having you cat neutered is just being a responsible cat owner! She'll likely lick her wound, just check to make sure she's not overdoing it and it's not getting red or swollen, indicating a possible infection. Use shredded newspaper for litter for about 5-7 days then switch back to her normal litter.
I've never heard of shutting a cat in a room by herself for two weeks unless there's a reason for being isolated. (Like other animals that won't leave her alone while she's recuperating)
Let her out and give her lots of loving...she's just had major surgery!
Hope this helps, good luck!

5 months is an excellent age to have a cat spayed. Cats are very often dizzy and wobbly after anesthesia and it is entirely normal if she hides under the sofa. I am not so sure about your vet though. What worries me is that your cat can lick her wound. Why does she not have a proper bandage? There is also no need to keep the cat for two weeks in a separate room. If you are worried, take the cat to another vet.

No, 5 months is fine for spaying. Many vets even do it alot younger. She was wobbly because of the drugs she was given. I was told to make sure to use shredded newspaper in the litter box for a few days because litter can infect the wound. I've never heard of locking an animal up for 2 weeks in a room.

All of the behavior you describe of your kitten is perfectly normal. Cats can have litters at three months old. Many people don't know this
.
She should be fine by today, usually the anesthesia wears off by the next day. She doesn't really need a cone for her head unless she keeps picking at the stitches, which they hardly do. And licking them won't really hurt. If she starts biting and trying to pull them out, then you may need one. But I've never seen a cat do this. It's normal for them to try and clean a wound area.
I wouldn't let her outside at all. I hope you have a litterbox for her while she is indoors. I don't let my cat out, she's an indoor cat. She will return to normal within a few days.

I would keep the ecollar on. It is ok that the cat does not like it. But if you have a hard plastic one, there are alternatives that may be better. For $5, my vet sells a soft vinyl collar. Pet stores will have a few options as well. Try using a little canned food for the medicine. The cat is eating, drinking, and using the litterbox. The cat seems to be adjusting fine. Just make sure the redness is getting better not worse. Taking the collar off may increase the irritation of the wound.

No that's not too young, or the vet wouldn't have done the surgery. It is expected that she would be groggy and wobbly, from the drugs. It is okay if she just licks at the wound, but if she is biting and pulling at them than you need to stop her from doing that when she does it.

5 months is fine. She's probably wobbly from the meds. Yes, get her the cone, or she may lick so much her stitches will open.
