In our case our son just got too big. My husband would take him in the Snugli or Baby Bjorn carriers we had, whenever we went out, but eventually, by around 4 mths and 23lbs, he was just too tall and wide! lol! We knew it was time to use the stroller exclusively when we were in a department store parking lot literally stuffing(not in a painful way of course!) him in it and laughing our pants off! We plan on getting a back-style carrier in a couple months for the summer.

ummm.....The baby weighs a ton after about 20 minutes, so anything that is going to take longer than that would just be a trial for mom, and would wear on your temper. I just don't think that can be good for the baby. Another reason is that while you are carrying the baby even in one of those slings or baby backpacks you have limited reach, and poor balance which makes getting on and off elevators, escelators, or public transportation dangerous for both you and the child There are many things that in theory sound good like putting the baby on their back to sleep, but then the real world kicks in when the baby hits about 1 month old and can rollover! We just do the best we can and hope it will work!

I'm expecting next month and I will be using both. When I'm out running quick errands, it will be easier to take her carset out and pop it into the stroller than to take her out of it, tuck her into a sling or carrier in the cold and then have to do the reverse to get back in the car. The stroller will also double as a cart if not in the store, then at least to carry the stuff TO the car. But since my husband and I do go places and sight-see, and are actually planning a trip this summer, I will have a carrier for the baby for ease of transportation.

Because most parents would know a baby carrier if it came up and bit them in the face.

And from my personal experience trying to find a baby backpack that fits me properly (as I 1m 5'2" and my baby is 30lbs @10 months so fit is very important) each store may carry ONE kind and I have to keep driving all over town (and out of town).

Also babies are heavy

Personally I have never taken a stroller on the bus. I take the carrier or I don't go.

Also at the mall strollers are a nice place to put parcels ;-)

I see a lot of three, 4 or perhaps 5 365 days olds in pushchairs/buggies - yet my daughter desperate that she basically wanted to stroll at approximately 2 a million/2. i think of you have a minimum of yet another a million and a million/2 to 2 years to get use out of a clean one.

I'll tell you what my reason was. I had one of the best baby carriers, but I only used it once, right after my daughter was born. Reason being - I was always afraid the snaps would come undone and my baby would tumble to the ground. I did not feel comfortable taking my hands off her while she was in the carrier. So if I went anywhere in public, I could not make use of my hands at all, which were holding onto my baby "just in case". In the stroller, I knew for sure she wasn't going to fall.
To me, it was like.... the only thing standing between my infant daughter and the asphalt was a bunch of snaps & straps..and I couldn't put my trust in them.

I used them because I was a military wife always on my own with the babies. While I would have loved to you a carrier, it was too difficult to go out and shop or do laundry and stuff like that carrying the my children. especially when you have two.

I agree with you I don't like the carriages unless it is absolutely necessary. When my son was 3 mths old I started taking him with me to work. I always carry him in the snuggly, because it was difficult and dangerous to go up and down and in subway with the strollers. But I also felt more comfortable and bonded with my child because he was right there. I seldom use a stroller only when he got bigger.

i agree with you. i hate lugging around her stroller. i do love to carry her in her infant carrier and she falls asleep almost instantly. for me it is a lot more convenient. i do however, take the stroller if we are shopping in a mall or such, even though most of the time i end up holding her. it is a great place to put purchases.
