I basically know when something is wrong with him, but when I ask he says "nothing".

Well its true men dont readily open up, they arent as expressive as females are but u should try talking to him, letting him know that u understand he may not want to talk right now but you're willing to give him his space and time. there's a good book called Men are from Mars and Women from Venus. I think you should borrow it from your library and have a read i think it would help you to understand why guys behave the way they do...

Well some men are just very blunt and they don't want express their feelings but try to ask him again and if he does not tell you, you should then try to try to find clues and if that does not work then maybe he just wants to be alone for a little bit by his self because he might be stressed

Have a serious talk with him. Most guys dont like expressing their feelings. Tell him your there for him and assure him with that. Hopefully he'll open up to you.
