NO NO NO

"The Origin of Species" is only the first draft of the theory of evolution which is a scientific theory that explains the origin of species, it is not a moral guideline. If you use it as a "Bible" the result is social darwinism which I totally reject. Same with the "Selfish Genes". "The Origin of Species" is not even completely correct about the theory of evolution itself as it was improved by other scientists after Darwin.
For me as an atheist, there is no "holy book". There are scientific theories that describe the world and nature as it is, but don't tell the people what is right or wrong. My morals are much more "Christian" (or any other religion) than "Darwinist". However I don't need any scripture to know that it is wrong to do harm to others and that it is good to be good to others.

They contemporary an identical arguments that have been being asked 1500 years in the past. no longer something new. purely extra anger and hatred in the direction of the Christian worldview.

Atheists by definitions dont have religious books and we dont accept arguments from authorities. Science encourages you to seek out the truth for yourself - religion never does - believe what we tell you or burn in hell.

No, thanks.

Besides intelligent christians accept the facts of evolution as does the catholic church.

Science is built on previous knowledge so if you wanted to know which was the first real book to discuss neo-Darwinism (incorporating Mendelian genetics) it would probably be Sir R A Fisher's 'The Genetical theory of Natural Selection'.

Did you say WE atheists? lol... Yeah, nice joke. Clarify our beliefs... you need to look up atheist in a dictionary before you try and imitate one.

On the origins of species correctly recognises that natural selection is the biological mechanism for evolutionary change but it also contains Darwin's personal opinions which on certain subjects, pangenesis for example, were wrong so while it's a useful reference tool it shouldn't be treated as a wholly reliable source on evolutionary biology.

The answerer who said "Origin of Species" used as a bible would lead to social Darwinism got me thinking--perhaps it would be better to use one of Ayn Rand's works...Cheers!

NO! Atheism is not organised grouping or society. It's better that way as no one could claim ownership of an Atheist!

I am an Atheist and I would not consider either in such a way. To begin with neither are religious doctrine. Both are great books though.
