Correct your figures buddy. Out of 150 crores of population all that are below 15 and above 50 are vulnerable to blood donations. Of the remaining figure there are few with physical disorders like aneamia, low heamoglobin count, Blood pressure, and a lots more. Now off the remaining healthy, a good crore donate blood every now and then, I assume that's a good figure. Although they need to be more frequent in their action.
Figures of people dieing due to unavailibility of blood is far less then the figure dying due to accidents. Accident victims are more in need if blood than anybody else. But because of untimely reporting system - like the hospital department didn't inform on time, or the person ran out of time by the time it reached the hospital, or probably we the citizens didn't report the accident; these victims meet the ill-fate.
Secondly the reach of blood banks. The total toll of private blood banks along with the hospitals blood banks and the institutional blood banks is far less. This is something that needs to be taken care of. The more the number of blood banks, the more donors you will find.
