Peppermint oil is great. It cools and seems to trick your senses. Wearing sunglasses also. If it gets too bad I take Excedrin Migraine which is basically aspirin loaded with caffeine. The caffeine is the effective part.

I have found that loading up on cafeine really helps.

I take a Goody's headache power. This has acetominophen, aspirin and cafeine, then follow that with a can of coke, and a hershey bar.

this gives you something for pain relief, and a lot of cafeine. Cafeine causes the blood vessels to shrink and relieve the pressure.
The combination has about as much cafeine as two cups of coffee.

Sour apple gum...
I know it sounds weird, but my brother-in-law turned me on to it and it really helps. It works best if you start to chew it before the migraine is in full bloom (after that, nothing seems to help).
I used to take Imitrex 4-5 times a month (and at $25/pill, that gets expensive). Now I only take it once or twice.

apart from taking the herb feverfew continuously to prevent them, a drop of peppermint oil on the temples and back of the head it the best option. works almost immediately.

also helpful to figure out if theres a dietary cause through an elimination diet. whether it be tomatoes, nuts, preservatives, wheat, citrus fruit etc
good luck
