SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 24 (OneWorld) - At least 186 antiwar protests in the United States have been monitored by the Pentagon's domestic surveillance program, according to documents obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which also found that the Defense Department collected more than 2,800 reports involving Americans in a single anti-terrorism database.
The documents were obtained by the ACLU through a Freedom of Information Act request filed last February.
"It cannot be an accident or coincidence that nearly 200 antiwar protests ended up in a Pentagon threat database," Ann Beeson, associate legal director of the ACLU, said in a statement. "This unchecked surveillance is part of a broad pattern of the Bush administration using 'national security' as an excuse to run roughshod over the privacy and free speech rights of Americans

Asuman ... When you say "spy," it seems you're implying that something improper or illegal was done.
The government routinely monitors major events and the activities of influential people who are opposed to government policies, decisions, and actions. However, I believe our free press would make an immensely huge "stink" if anything improper were going on or if the government tried to hinder the efforts of the anti-war demonstrators.
But you might be wondering ... Why does the government monitor the activities of these people? Well, you can decide ANYthing ... you can even decide the United States will disband and become a Communist state instead, but only by the will of a majority of the people. People or organizations that may be planning or supporting those who would attempt to disrupt legal activities of the United States by other than peaceful means are the ones our government keeps track of. In fact ALL governments do that.

did you actually look in to who they were spying on?
They are Anarchists, the groups they were monitoring on were know for violent activities against businesses and Innocent people.
these are the guys who carry ball bearings in their back packs to throw under police horses. they are the ones who trash cars and smash business windows because "corporations start wars"
the people targeted are no the good guys, they seriously are the bad guys, they give the anti war movement a bad name.
I lived around San Fransisco for nearly 30 years, I have seen these scum bags at work. any one who would support them knows these guys are up to no good. they wear masks so the police cant identify them, then cause a riot then disappear in the the shadows like rats leaving others to suffer for them.
personally I would love to see these guys arrested and put away for a long time.
look deeper than a half-***ed attempt at a news story , there is more behind these groups than just being anti-war.

In a list of groups that are labeled as potential terrorists this also includes anti-war demonstartors, why?? , because they could also potentially ve a threat to the president's life, hold demonstrations that are dangerous, etc. Fopr instance some of the Enviromental groups (not all ) but some have in the past attacked places like car dealerships with pipe bombs trying to prove a point that cars kill people and the enviroment.

Although it is possible that the majority of anti-war protesters are just that, there is always a hard core that are intent on serious trouble. Some of these people turn into terrorists and blow buildings and people up.
I am one hundred per cent in favour of the US Military and UK MI5/6 spying on anti-war demonstrators.
We are at war with the terrorists. Are these anti-war protesters 'terrorists'? We just don't know. Take no chances.

It's called Force Protection and the military is authorized by law to protect its bases and personnel. What you don't realize is that most domestic terrorist attacks in the US are carried out by leftist groups. Although 99.99% protest may be peaceful in nature, there still is the .01% chance that a threat to DOD may exist...

Surveillance of Anti-war demos is not legal because it is being used to identify the leaders for talks in order to put a stop to their religion.
