me and my wife are tattoo artist. it sounds like it is in its natural healing prosses. it will itch and it will hurt. as far as scraping it you might have scraped some color. after it heals go and get it touched up.

I had the same problem when i got mine!!!
It itched sooooooo bad it felt like it was on fire.. but instead of scratching i tried rubbing instead!!
try get some BEPANTHEN - it is a creamy white cream you get from the pharmacy and it soothes the itchiness... really good stuff! Some women use it on babies for nappy rash.
Dont know if you still got scabs from all the itching, but if you do DONT take them off, just let them fall off naturally.
And the artists usually make you come back when its properly healed so they can 'touch up' any areas they may have missed or are a bit blotchy etc. Pretty standard!
I have also read before as well that the red dye used for tattooing contains mercury, and some people will react to it by getting a rash or irritation. Its usually only temporary but once again try the bepanthen. Im suprised the artist didnt suggest something like this to you anyway.

For some reason fresh tattoos itch a lot but whatever you do.... DON'T SCRATCH THEM!!!! Seriously, the color will fade and it won't look the same. Trust me I know... I got a huge desert eagle on my leg with a holster and everything and it itched for about a month after I had it. I scratched a little and now the straps of the holster are missing color in some spots! Oh and Curel lotion works thee best! You can use Vaseline or A&D ointment but these products only moisturizes fresh cut skin whereas Curel actually helps you heal. (possilbly even faster, depends on the person and the place of the tat)

It's going to be itchy, your skin will peel like you have a sunburn and the ink will bleed on your sheets/ clothes. That's totally natural.
But, DO NOT SCRATCH!!. My advice has always been to slather the tat in petroleum jelly and cover it with syran wrap when you go to bed and if it's under clothing. When you get home, remove any clothes from the area and clean it well with Softsoap (it works the best) and let it heal and breath for as long as possible.
Also, wash the tat with Softsoap and rinse off completely (and gently) at least 3 times a day to prevent infection.
If there is any scarring later, you can open Vitamin E capsules and rub the liquid on the tat. It will help break up/ prevent scar tissue.
(I have many tats and used to date a tattoo artist, so I speak from much experience.)
BTW, what is your tat of and where is it?

It is itching because the scabs are coming off. It is healing. DONT SCRATCH IT!!!! YOU WILL TAKE SOME OF THE COLOUR OFF! Use vaseline on it daily. Keep it moisturised - and i mean FOREVER. You need to look after a tattoo, or it will fade.

DO NOT SCRATCH IT!! i think you might have already ruined your tattoo, but if it itches, just do your best to ignore it. go to the website below for more info on how to take care of your tattoo. and you should probably see your tatt artist to make sure everything is still ok.

THE RED AND BLACK MIXING IS AN ARTIST MISTAKE...UNLESS YOU WANTED IT FADED TOGETHER...I WOULD RECOMMEND PUTTING A&D OINMENT ON THE TAT. DONT NOT SCRATCH AT IT...YOU COULD HARM THE SURFACE OF YOUR TATTOO AND POSSIBLIY LEAVE SCARRING. THE OINMENT SHOULD HELP. MAKE SURE IT DOESNT GET ANY SUN FOR ATLEAST 6 MONTHS...THIS WILL HELP KEEP THE COLOR BRIGHT. YOU MIGHT SEE THE SKIN FLAKE ALITTLE...JUST USE THE OINMENT AND THINGS WILL BE OK

sctratching your tat does ruin it. otherwise, it's supposed to itch, it's healing. when you cut yourself open and start to heal, doesn't it itch? some thing happens with a tattoo. go back to the artist when you are supposed to and if need be due to your scratching, ask him/her to touch it up.
