I have a minature pin that stays in the house and doesn't like it outside at all... little dogs tend to be more of a cuddler and love to be with and close to the owners at all times.

Personally, I don't believe any dog should be kept outside all the time. I have noticed that almost all dogs left outside suffer from some sort of neglect. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that everyone who keeps their dog outside is abusive but I think that since the dog is so much more out of site then it would be when in the house and a part of the family, it is hard to give it the attention it needs and even to remember feeding and water and the basics would be more difficult if you did not have a dog right there looking you in the eye with those pitifull eyes. I also think that people miss out on the whole experiance when a dog is left outside Vs.in. They miss unexpected licks or rubs of affection, they miss having a new family member that doesn't care if you are having a bad hair day and who always forgives you if you snap at them. I don't know how people who have ever had an indoor dog could ever want to leave them outside.
I have a rescued greyhound (large to med sized dog) and a Chinese Crested hairless (9 pounds) they both live inside and I would not have it any other way, I would take them to work with me if I could.
I only wish I were half the person that my dogs think I am.

It depends on the breed of small dog. Some are more delicate than others. We have obtained 5 dogs that start at Black Lab to Dashund Mix -- from 100 lbs. ;95 lbs.;45 lbs. and 2 @ 20 lbs. each. They all could live outdoors and survive just fine because they all Have since they were dumped or lost by their previous owners. The 3 large dogs all live outdoors and have a large fenced yard to roam in and good shelter from the weather -- the labs don't care -- they will walk around in the cold rain wagging their tails and play and run with each other-- they will even dive into a small pond nearby to fetch sticks or chase birds. The two smaller ones survived outdoors catching rabbits, birds, etc. before we got them -- but we let them in and out of the house all the time -- whenever they want just because they are so cute and DEMAND our attention. They sleep in the house at night -- each one has their favorite lounge chair -- I really couldn't imagine the tiny breeds living outdoors -- something would probably eat them -- like the neighbor's cat.
Hope this helps.

I don't think that you are mistaken, most smaller dogs do live inside. But on the other hand I do believe that family that have a fenced yard the dogs make stay outside but that is nothing wrong with having a small dog that stays out. i have small dogs 3 of them and they live inside, sleep with us and they are spoiled rotten...but we wouldn't have it any other way. We love our animals, plus we have two cats one comes in and out and the other is out but it choosen to not come inside. Just make sure if you own a animal that you get them the proper vacc's yearly to help fight off the illness that they can get.

We used to have our dogs(staffordshires) inside while we were home. Now we have a child, our dog lives out more than in. She is ok with the change as we trained her before the baby arrived. She now comes inside for an hour or so while our child is awake and stays in till we all go to bed. So to answer your question our dog is an outside dog!!!

I am a proffesional dog person. When its winter and cold outside, you know like muddy and wet, Keep the dog inside. If its warm and sunny and dry outside let her go outside if she chooses. Usually when dogs shed you should normally keep them outside becuz it helps them. But when yur dog has to go to the bathroom and its wet outside buy yur dog a box. I did that and put some dirt and other stuff inside, she went in after being trained. So for you I would consider wat i said it really helps you and yur poochy. I have some more. not much though. Buy a doghouse in summer or spring. It will help yur dog stay away from fleas and ticks. I think with this you will have a a happy, healthy dog! Take Care Now! *hugs*

All of our dogs have lived inside the house with a doggy door to the yard. We do currently have a Chihuahua and he is inside as much as possible, by his choice. Small dogs are much more susceptible to getting chilled, plus they tend to want to be with their person as much as possible. We live in a canyon and little dogs are easy prey to predators. Although we are in a large city, there are still coyotes; and they think small pets are very tasty. I have personally seen one of the coyotes local to our canyon. HUGE, beautiful beast that is obviously eating well. {:-O Any responsible small dog owner will keep their pocket pet inside the house. IMHO, a dog, no matter the size, should be allowed in the house with its people. Dogs are pack animals and isolation creates bored, destructive, lonely, depressed animals.
