Public services are being sacrificed on the altar of the Free Market to the god of Consumerism; public transport is the most expensive in the world, but is badly run; we lock up more people proportionally than any other European country and now our prisons can't take any more so that people we should lock up aren't; we only get one or two weeks of summer, and no one can say when that'll be; flooding causes chaos; random heavy snow brings roads to a standstill; leaves and heat screw up rail services; supermarket cartels rip the guts out of town centres; we work longer hours for less pay than any other European coutnry; there is significant job insecurity that's led to increased xenophobia; housing is astronomically expensive; but then, so are most other things, even taking into account the cost of living; "binge drinking" regularly causes social disorder on the streets of town centres; we have a government hell-bent on monitoring and cataloguing everyone of us.

We're lucky to be in the top 40!

This country is becoming disgusting to live in!

there is a blatant disregard for the peasants that have built up this country to being the 4th richest country in the world!

Yet our health service and other public services are being underfunded to a disgusting degree.

The working class people are being treated in an abysmal manner with the right to protest taken away!!

The peasants need to start revolting and make our MP's do what we want and not impose what they want on us!!
Look what is happening in Scotland and Wales! Us English folk are stupid!! and need to wake up and smell the coffee.

This country has no respect for its citizens and I feel that wide scale poverty is just around the corner and it'll be Thatchers Britain again! Steal from the poor and give to the rich!!

And we are letting it happen! Doesn't any body ever remember the past! Its only one hundred years ago when people used to starve and drop dead in the streets! 2 generations ago !! that's all!

That whoever rated it hasn't been here.
I love the UK so much, but there are so many things wrong with it.
The Government [especcially Tony Blair],
The weather,
The foreigners,
The pollution,
The crappy food that we get [go to a English supermarket, then a French one, we get all of the crap stuff, their fresh food looks fresh, ours looks about a week old],
We can't grow many of our own produces,
Taxes [my Grandad remebers when, in England, you could fill up your car with petrol and buy 20 fags, and still get change from £5, now it costs more than £5 to buy 20 fags let alone filling up your car!],

The list goes on. Basically there are more than 36 better countries to live in. However I would never live anywhere else, because I hate foreigners and I wouldn't want to be one.

Look who wrote the story. If you look at the same reasons: The UK was marked down for its bad weather, poor transport, high cost of living and health service. They got a point. I think the real injustice is the USA being 5?

Okay so some things are fair enough, like transport system, health service and cost of living, but I don't think it's fair to mark countries up or down depending on the climate which no-one can do anything about.

If this is the case, why are so many immigrants risking life and limb to get here, rather than go to the 36 countries that are better to live in?

With 2000 people leaving every week I'm surprised we are that high on the list

You know, UK shouldn't have been included on the top 50 list. For one thing, it's too expensive! Next, the weather is so gray. Third, it's tiny, not enough place for expansion.

we're 37th partly due to bad weather?

"oh right, the weather, i'll fix that at once...

there you go, now our weather system is much like the south of france.."
