Why are Singaporeans so formal?

nah, not formal.
They can't interact well with people because they are so KIA SU (afraid to lose)!!!!

I have several Singaporean friends and I don't find them to be formal. They are quite relaxed, casual and humorous when we are together.

Formal towards who? Foreigners? It's probably our way of being polite.
