Extensors are on the back of the arm, flexors are on the front, with the arm bones in-between.

Its sorta like if you just had a mexican dinner and wanted to store your leftovers in the fridge - you can use plastic wrap to wrap up all the beef burritos, then more plastic wrap to wrap up all the cheese burritos. Then put them side by side and wrap the whole bundle with more plastic wrap. In the end, you've got one package with two seperate compartments inside, keeping the types of burritos in the same basic place but seperated.

In your body, this is done with a tissue called fascia. The anterior (wrist) side of your arm contains flexors, all wrapped up in an anterior fascia. The posterior (back of hand) of your arm contains extensors, all wrapped up in a posterior fascia. Then wrapped about the whole bundle is one big fascia to keep all the muscles together in the same general area but in seperate working compartments (with your bones in the middle).
