The sore throat shouldn't be connected. Have you been checked for GERD? Three years sounds like a chronic condition and you should have it looked into. GERD can cause swelling in the esophagus, which could feel like a sore throat (after all, the throat and esophagus are about an inch or two apart). If it is GERD, it's a funny little thing ... GERD and hypothyroidism go hand in hand in many, many people, moreso than the overall population, which is making doctors a mite bit suspicious. Who knows? Maybe they ARE related? But for now, see if you can get a doc to problem solve for the sore throat -- don't ignore it. Unchecked GERD for instance can lead to a disease which leads to cancer.

I think you should see a different doctor, perhaps even a specialist for E N T. I've had various problems with my throat. One being 2 years of torture with tonsillitis, over and over til they finally said fine you can remove them after hyping up my medical bills every 2 month for 2 years. Another issue I had was I had a nasal drip. My fluids from the brain were supposedly dripping down and leaking into my nose therefore my throat. Hey gave me a spray to take, like those asthma inhalers. You say you throat is sore but you need to explain what kind of soreness. Does it hurt to swallow food, hurt to swallow water, does your ear feel pain when you swallow, do you feel dry, can you taste blood in the back of your throat when you do cardio exercises for maybe about 5 min, does your nose feel dry, have you recently visited the dentist and done anything? There are endless possibilities and if you have medical insurance I would suggest you push to meet a specialist, have your regular doctor recommend one or surf the web. Especially if your throat is becoming worse, don't wait too long to help yourself. Strep throat is a serious issue that should not be left too long, it can cause heart problems in the future if not taken care of properly with antibiotics. Keep your fluids up constantly keep water in your system, avoid acidic things, and avoid overly milky things too.

I have hypothyroidism and so does my mom and grandma. I have never heard of a sore throat being related to the problem. I do have sinus & allergy problems that causes a sore thoart. I go to WebMD and look up a lot of stuff. That is where I learned a lot about hypothyroidism it does affect a lot of things. I was really surprised what all it does affect. Good Luck don't let it get out of hand it can cause a lot of problems! I found out the hard way!!!!

We often see hypothyroid symptoms totally reversed when commits to a plan that supports balance through nutrition and daily self-care. Learn here https://tr.im/0Sr3m
Consume foods naturally high in B vitamins, such as whole grains, nuts, and seeds, and iodine (fish, seaweed, vegetables and root vegetables).
Exercise daily, at least 30–60 minutes per day, 4–5 times a week.
Practice deep breathing and other techniques that trigger the “relaxation response” – such as meditation and guided visualization.

Go in for a thyroid test again. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

i think they are more or less connected somehow. i don't know how though. try stretching it backwards daily for awhile. work on good form. eventually you want a nice, pretty, yoga backbend going on. that may or may not help.
an interesting guess might be that it is allergies causing drainage down your throat causing irritation. perhaps you can find a way to reduce allergens.
you getting your vitamins and all that?
