On http://myfilmo.com/software.php you have software converts and burn your videos between avi, asf, wmv, mpeg, Divx and Real format.
I think they still have free trial.

The way that's worked best for me is to rip the DVD using dvd shrink and then converting to AVI using AOA dvd ripper. Takes a while to do though, so much time that to convert our collection of around 600 discs I ended up buying a second machine to do that and not much else.
