For drinking I like these places:
Evil Eye (it's near the Minster) it sells a lot of different beers and ales and also has an off-licence section.
Lendal Cellars (on Lendal, near Betty's tea room) is an underground bar with a good selection on the menu ad behind the bar.
The Maltings (near the river Ouse and the rail station) is a famous pub which does a wide selection of beers at good prices. I love this place.
The Old Swan (Goodramgate) is a good pub near the Shambles and has a decent selection of drinks at reasonable prices.
There are a lot of other good pubs around this part of York such as Roman Baths, Varsity, the Blue Bell, a really good one I can't remember the name of, and the Golden Fleece.
Most bars in York are either beer pubs, food bars or studenty places.

there are heaps of place if u just walk about you will see loads most are really nice bars.
the slug and lettece is nice,lendal cellers,judges lodging,evil eye.

bilmore for the most delish cocktails.

i hope this helps i'm from the area but hopeless with names we just tend to go all over then end up at either BPM or the gallery.

ou the parish is nice i like it in there its set in a old church or something.

allso you could go and do the mickle gate run. start at top and head into town!quite cheap up there.

Nowhere at the weekends as it is a big hen and stag night place and consequently it is very difficult to get in anywhere especially if there are more than two of you. Go somewhere else - like Leeds.
