it's "rebonding".. and it'll sure straighten your hair, but it will also make it dry, or look dry. after rebonds, your hair looks sort of different, not for the fact that it's straight now, but it looks dry, frizzy and, i don't know, different! that's why you'd recognize people who had rebonding done to their hair. also, my stylist said it's not good for your hair.
