Unless you only plan on working fast food type jobs it is not advisable to get this done. There is a risk of infection for any piercings, especially the mouth because there is so much bacteria in a human's mouth, no matter how many times a day you brush, or rinse with Listerine. I am a supervisor and When someone comes in with facial piercings I tell them upfront that it is against company policy and if they want the job bad enough they need to remove it. It is not professional.

I have 3 lip piercings and I dont think they hurt. They happen very quick. The pain afterwards is what hurts. The healing process. I have no idea if you can get it done in the UK without parental consent at 16,but here in the U.S. you have to have parental consent that young.

This is how it went for me with ny laws and my pain threshold 1) 16 by yourself, any age with an adult 2) 3 or 4 it's not bad when it gets pierced but your bound to hit it a couple times and that will defiantly hurt 3) some jobs don't allow you to wear it and if you take it out early on it will close 4) it's your personal preference some people look good with it some don't, try buying a fake one first and see if you like how it looks at the worst you can always tie it out 5) mine was 40 for the piercing but you'll also want saline solution you probably tack on another 10

1. I've got both my top and bottom lip pierced. It was slightly soar when it was being done, but hurts much less than other piercings, especially I found the nose.

2. I'm not 100% definate but I think you may need parental consent up to age 18. Why not pop into a place that does piercings and talk to them about all your worries!

first - I suggest calling local piercing places and asking them if they'll pierce you without a parent. Someone might just say yes. Im not from the uk, I dont know the laws there. However, you can hide alot of things from your parents....a lip ring isnt one of them. Maybe you could talk them into letting you get one as a birthday present instead? Tell them that even if they disagree with piercings, and even if you decide years from now that you dont want it, the scar it leaves is the size of a pin prick, a freckle is more noticeable.

Second - I got my lip pierced about 5 years ago. My piercer said "take a deep breath" and while i was inhaling he shoved the needle through my lip. he did it so fast that I didnt have time to register pain. Infact, the worst part is when they put the jewelry in, because that takes a little longer. But the entire process takes about 30 seconds.

30 seconds of bearable pain- years of pierced enjoyment. Totally worth it.

The only thing is --make sure they jewelry they use is long enough. He put in a labret that was too short, and while it was healing it was imbedding into my lip. THAT, hurt. I took it out and replaced it with a longer one , then it was fine, and it healed properly.

*sigh*......to the person under me..she wasnt asking for your opinion on whether or not you like lip rings...so why waste her time telling her that you dont?... I doubt you not liking them is going to change her mind from wanting to get one.

i have both a labret and a medusa and neither are particulary painful, there is of course a healing period, but as far as parental consent goes, i know my piercer-or any other reputable one wont pierce and under 16, even with consent. you will find plenty of places that will, unfortunately, and u have to ask yourself why, obviously i am not against piercings-i have 13 of them but i did think long and hard b4 getting each one, and the implications that would come with each one, if you cant have parental consent ur gonna have to face the music once its done and may have to take it out anyway, try talkin it out with your parent/s, i would far rather one of my kids talked to me than risk them going somewhere not so reputable by themselves, if u can put ur case across in an adult manner they may re think rather than ur doing it just on a whim, do your homework on piercers in your area, show them you have thought about this, good luck

1. I didn't think that it hurt , really, at all. Different people have different pain tolerances, but allot of people say that it's not a painful piercing.
2. I have no clue about that, but I know that in the U.S. it's 18 without consent.

i second fi x
first find out about piercing places where you live, the reputable ones will have a notice saying everyone under 18 will be asked for parental consent.
also ask about the price, if it sounds too cheap, run away; i had my eyebrow pierced for £10 and had to take it off 6 months later cause it never healed and got infected badly. the mouth would be worse!
when discussing it with your parents, make a point of telling them you're willing to remove it on any family outings etc.. or if you find a job. show them you're being responsible with it, that you know the implications, and get one of them to come with you too, they'll want to make sure you're not going to be butchered.
finally, good luck :)

I had my labret pierced.

From my experience, it does not hurt much! An injection hurts more (in my experience)

About the consent thing, some bogus places would do it without parental consent, but why would you want to go there?!

1. doesn't hurt, only if you watch the needle go in!! i've had mine 6 years, no swelling but it depends on your own reactions to ear piercings etc

2. need parental consent, the piercer didn't believe i was 16 had to phone my mum even though she had booked it for me!!
