let him help with cooking...kids will eat more and even eat at all if they cook the food and you and your wife make a big deal about what he cooked and how good it is...google..kids reciepes and you will have a top chief and a health eater sooner then you think

good luck.... with cooking he will be able to "play" with the food while cooking and eat it when it's time to eat...

Go to www.lakeside.com They have the Rachel Ray 30 minute cookbook for kids for only $5.95. Get this for him and tell him that he can pick out whatever he wants to help you make for dinner. Tell him he needs to try at least one new veggie a week. You are the parents and if you are losing small battles over food, you will not be able to control him at all when he is 13. And actually, poor eating habits CAN inhibit growth in children. Make sure that he is getting a multi-vitamin everyday. Costco has the huge bottle of the sour gummy bear fruit & veggie suppliments. My 2 year-old loves them. He also eats all different kinds of fruits and veggies because he was exposed to them as a baby. Don't allow him to be a picky eater.

My son was the pickiest eater I knew!! He didnt try eggs until he was 20 years old and that was because his girlfriend made them for him!!! What I did was make sure he had "carnation's instant breakfast" in the morning as I knew this had alot of protein in it and he loved the chocolate taste. Being that he loved chicken was a plus also because that is full of protein as well. Pasta seemed to help also. As soon as he was involved with sports he seemed to be more hungry. My doctor always told me don't worry about it since he couldnt find any medical reason why he wasnt eating. He'll come around the doctor said. Sure enough he was right. My son is a bodybuilder now and I'd have never guessed that thin little peanut would turn out to be a healthy fit young man. If it aint broke dont fix it!! I know it can be frustrating, I watched my cousin run around the house with a spoon full of food trying to feed her son. He also turned out to be a fine healthy strong young man.

it probably could of started with the not sitting there and eating. Now, he is 8 so he knows a few tricks. You will have to start eating at the table with you guys. Dish him up whatever your having (but a smaller serve) and he has to stay there until it is all gone. If he kicks up a fuss he can go to bed with nothing. You will have to be consistent. In the meantime if you are really worried, get him onto some kids vitamins and minerals or a something you can put into milk with vitamins and minerals in it. My kids have tried to be picky over the years.....my son in particular. He knows he has to sit there and eat it (at least most of it) or he can't leave the table.

that is a deeper problem then it is take him to the doctor and talk to the dr.. keep taking him and also look online to find a cause talto your son maybe tell him that if he eats that one day out of the week you all would let him choose what to have for dinner or just have a pizza night just tell him that mommy and daddy is worried and eating is good but like i said let him choose what to eat or reward him once a month with whatever good luck

Your son's not short because of his poor eating habits. He's short because he's 9 and because of his gene pool.
Why would you give your son medicine to get him to eat? That makes no sense at all. Children develop their eating habits at a young age. He was probably allowed to pick and fuss at the table when he was younger. It was cute then. It's not so cute now. When he gets hungry he'll eat. Don't allow him to eat between meals and don't allow him to eat junk food. Offer him food at meal times, if he refuses to eat, then he'll go hungry until the next meal. Don't give in.

Provided that he isn't ill then just leave him to it. There is nothing to say he would'nt be the smallest in his class even if he ate like a horse. Every meal will be a battle if you carry on.

he may have an eating disorder. Tell him that he must eat. If he plays with his food, tell him that he loses a toy that he would normally play with (since the food is 'playful' to him). Hope it helps...

Let him watch his parents eat it and say they enjoy the food, and dont let him eat sweets. let him pick what he wants to eat sometimes, maybe he dont like certain foods. maybe he'll get tired of it one day, and get hungry and start eating.

involve him in the menu and the cooking--guide him through the process and reward him withlove and encouragement--you probably gave him these bad habits over years-you can't fix it overnight
