In order to piss him off royally I'd ... return the wallet intact. 'Coz then he'd know that I am a better person.

Regardless if I hated them or not; I'd return the wallet. I may not knock on the door and hand it to him/her but I may leave it in his/her mailbox or on their doorstep to avoid confrontation.
If I really dislike a person, I don't want to talk to them but I am also not a vindictive person who would keep someone elses wallet.
I'd do the same thing for a stranger if I could locate said stranger. If I cannot locate them I'd turn it into lost and found or if it was on the street I'd track down a police station. Most likely the wallet will have something with the person's address on it and I would mail it to them.
I've had my wallet stolen before and it was such a pain to get new credit cards, new bank account, new driver's liscense, and a new social security card. Not to mention cleaning up the $700.00 worth of bad checks the a**hole who stole my wallet wrote on my account that had all of fifty cents in it at the time.

HATE doesn't play into this scenario. It's a matter of right and wrong. It would be wrong to keep the wallet. It would be right to return it to the neighbor, regarless of how you feel about them.

I would return it. If you didn't want to talk with the neighbor, just leave it in the mailbox when he isn't home. Just because you hate your neighbor, doesn't mean you have to stoop to being a thief or a jerk and not returning it.

I agree with Wiseguy. It would be very tempting to take the cash and dump the wallet in his yard, but my mama always instilled in me that God is indeed watching.

Never had a neighbour I really hated but I'd give it back. Bad enough to hate somebody else without hating yourself as well.

Return it. You may find out he's not that bad, and if so just go on down the road. Hate only bring on more hate. At least your conscious will be clear.
