Has anyone ever shared a room with their brother or sister when they were teenagers?
Or do any of you have children of opposite sex who share rooms?
How was/is it?

It is not illegal in the Uk for opposite sex to share rooms at any age. I have researched this, so don't try to tell me that it's illegal.

I didn't actually ask for opinions on whether it's right or wrong I asked for experiences.

Once, when the home wasn't so big, family group lived all together. Besides familial members were many and offspring had to share the same room, alas. I've spent my youth in a room together 3 brothers and 2 sisters even.
Anyway, today also a lot of brother and sister share their room and there is nothing strange or wrong especially if there is no other possibility for the family to accomodate them.

I think the problem you got with most of these answers is that most assumed you were in the US. It helps on this type of thing to state the country you are in. In the US it IS illegal for any child over the age of 5 to share a room with a child of the oppisite sex. It is also illegal to have more then 2 children per bedroom (and you must have at least one BEDROOM for every 2 children of the same sex). Now these laws really aren't all that enforceable, unless you have a run in with child services or the police, anyway. Personally I think that oppisite sex children need to be in seperate rooms. ie a 10 year old boy does not need to watch his 13 year old sister get undressed. At a certain point children do deserve privacy from everyone, but ecspecially those of the oppisite sex. Then again, all my kids are girls, so I won't ever have to deal with this issue lol.

My kids (all 3) use to share a room,1 girl 2 boys. They did it for about 9 yrs till we were able to afford a bigger house. They had bunkbeds, twin on top and full on bottom with an extra mattress underneath. They didnt seem to mind at all and got alond fairly well. Funny thing is when we bought this house they all had there own rooms and for the first 3 months every morning when we got up they would all be in the same room in the same bed, it was comforting to them to have each other around. Now 3 yrs later they all have signs on the doors saying STAY OUT!!! Its fine and I really dont think its illegal and if so I broke the law for nine years...LOL!!

oh, i am not sure if it's illegal or not. But i used to share same room as my brother even at the age of 20 years old. This is because we are very poor and living in a 2-room HDB flat. And i have got 4 other siblings so we took turns to sleep in the bedroom and living room. In my culture, it isn't encouraged but as for my situation, i've got no choice. But nothing happened. so what is the problem with it? And i think this actually strengthened the bond between me and my brother. We always talk our feelings out and we don't feel shy to say we love each other (love as in siblings relationship). And we cared for each other alot instead of fighting over small issues or getting jealous...etc.

I not only shared a room but had to share a bed. We were very poor.My brother and I got the option to leave our mothers room when our baby sister was born (we did not want to be near a crying baby). We were in a queen size bed and suprisingly stayed on our sides. We both always slept on our side of the bed and never woke up near each other. Our mother thought it was funny. It was not weird cause he was my brother. It was that way till I moved out at 19 he was 17.Now I sleep all over my bed like a nut. :)

My sister has my 10 year old nephew and 8 year old niece in the same room. they have always shared a room. They seem to be really close( not in a sick sort of way). So I think it brings them closer together. I would put them in there own rooms when they get older for personal reasons.

hi there i used to share a bedroom with my brother plus my mother. Me and my bro was 6 and 8yrs of age we had to do this as there was five children in all and we lived in a really small 3 bedroom house me and my bro had bump beds and my mum had a double. It never bothered me at all.My bro used to have bad sleep problems so he couldnt share with the other two boys plus he was destructive and my older bro was a dj and had alot of expensive equipment in his room.I also couldnt share with my sister as the room was that small only a single bed could fit in there and there was no way i would of shared a bed with her i liked my own space.Plus she was alot older than me an i was at the age of using her makeup and reading her diary.LOL. It all worked out fine as my eldest bro and my sister eventually moved out.To be honest i miss the days we all lived in the 1 house we were alot closer despite the lack of bedrooms. Now we all have our own houses and find it hard to see each other.

I dont think children of different sex should share a room when they are at the age of puberty, usually around 12 years old they should be seperated.

I shared a bedroom with my brother in our early teens, but I didnt like it. He was a pig. He could live in filth. Once my rents finshed adding on to the house he was out though. And its not illegal. Good luck!
