3 different "last words of jesus"
"it is finished"
"into your hands I command my spirit"
"my lord, why have you forsaken me"
since the last two are pretty much opposites, it is clear that the gospels...at least three of them, were written by people who were not actually there.
An eyewitness to a dying man may forget a few details, but NOT the last words that man breathes.

Three of the Gospels are similar, the so-called Synoptic Gospels are Mark, Luke, Matthew. John differs most. From John you get three passovers described, while the Synoptics have only one. There is a theory that the Gospel of John was written as a liturgical text to be read on a three year cycle. If that is accurate, Jesus may have have had a very short ministry not the 3 years commonly thought. The earliest (Gospel of Mark) was written long after Jesus' death. Why are you looking for consistency?

there have been 13 gospels through the unique apostles. convinced, there have been 13 apostles, no longer 12. even as the Romans formed what's Orthodox christianity, the different gospels were written off as heretical and easily the gospels of matthew, mark, luke and john were saved. And no, there is not any definitive data about who extremely wrote those 4 gospels, they might have wrote them initially and they were certainly written 60 years later. although, it is totally in all probability the gospels followed through the Romans were also replaced ever so fairly to in fantastic condition their political time table. of direction the Emperor Constantine became attempting to save an empire.

The Bible tells all that Christ was not crucified but that two thieves were crucified and they were both identified, by the inscription on each cross that each was made to bear as, "JESUS KING OF THE JEWS", and so Jesus was crucified but not the Christ.
You can get as full an explanation of this great escape of the Christ and the punishment the Biblical Jews were made to face under Roman execution of two thieves on the Sabbath in the book titled, The Age Of Reason", which is available at the Bookstore at www.xlibris.com which takes you through the secrets of the Bible and the trick of the crucifixion.

Peace!
They had different sources and were writing for a specific group of believers. The gospel of Matthew is addressed to a community of Jewish converts while the gospel of Luke is addressed to Gentiles. All had a common source which is called the L or Quelle source. The gospel of Mark is said to have a low Christology while the gospel of John is said to have a high Christology.

It would be of a great help if you listed book chapter and verses...as far as whether the two wit Christ were thieves or robbers which is much the same thing in my humble opinion cant see how that would be pertinent to the story of the crucifiction..

It is the same story that differs only in trivial details.
Think of it as the story of the Beatles written by John, Paul, George, and Ringo. You'd get the same story, but 4 different views.

Have you ever heard 4 different people telling of the same experience? Not all their words are exact, or remembered in the same way. What may have been shared by one, may not have been shared by another. "the mind of the flesh will not understand the things of the Spirit"

oral culture. the gospels were widespread along with many different accounts of jesus' boigraphy. the inconsistency does not contradict what the bible portrays, but rather shows the lack of technology involved in recounting the message.

That my friend is the direct product of human imperfection, nothing divinely inspired although i do recognise and believe great words of wisedom and life council in the words of the bible written by the ancients in order to direct us in the right path, then again, you find even greater wisedom in other religious "holy" books.
