Biotechnology is the application side of the the field of biological sciences . Like many of the new fields of study today ( Robotics , Nano technology etc ) , it is also inter-disciplinary in that to be a good biotechnologist you need to have good knowledge of biology as well as application engineering , such as operations.
Career prospects will be very good in India , provided you specialise and preferably do Doctorate studies. It may take 4 to 5 years before it grows to the size of IT.
