Comfort helps people tolerate difficult things. But some times those things need to be changed. Look at Christianity, it promises great rewards to all who endure suffering now. And militant interpretations of Islam, with their idea of a harem of virgins for those who die defending the faith. In the former, 'being good' means praying counts for so much that action is forestalled. Or deciding that one already knows what another person needs. In both, 'being good' can mean murder.

Religion is about challenging people and taking them out of their comfort zones, asking them to consider the consequences of their words, thoughts and actions on themselves and each other. It's about an on-going dialogue on how best to live ethically and in a way that's fair to all. Without that dialogue, 'being good' is one-sided.

Yes I totally agree with this
For 'a tree is judged by it's fruits'
The test is to see if the fruits are good, and we have the ability to judge them by our conscience and knowledge of good and evil
I think religion is no different from designing a car, if the design is faulty it won't work or will fall apart, so you find the design that works, I mean the right interpretation since religion can't be summed up 'en masse' you can only treat people as individuals and see if they are producing more good than bad

Anti depresant drugs make the user believe they feel better, and they help them to be a better person in the short term. They also deaden the nervous system to stimuli and thus a part of the person is lost. lng term use will result in serious mental problems.

Religions are much the same, they give the faithful a false shell of protection from the world, thus the believer go around with the view of the world, and is dead to reality.

If the world was made by some great God, I would like to explore this wonder with my eyes wide open and my brain untainted by poor descriptions of its complexity - not to bury my head in the sands of edited scripture devised to control my actions and thoughts.

The Holy Spirit convicts people because it is the Spirit of Truth. When the Holy Spirit convicts you know the difference between what is right and what is wrong. That is what makes a person feel good and want to be good.
